In the alternate universe that exists inside a Tea Partier’s cerebellum, America is a raging dumpster fire—and the thing that put the match to the garbage was, of course, Obamacare.

This has been the GOP party line for a while. Before the Affordable Care Act was even law, when it was still just a bill on Capitol Hill, the Republicans were peddling doom, predicting the demise of the United States. All because of some regulatory reforms to the health insurance market.

The GOP may have forgotten all the doom and gloom it has forecasted over the past eight years. But I haven’t. So I’ve typed up a description of what America should look like today based on what Republicans themselves said. Everything between the quotation marks is quoted verbatim, and the wise conservative who said it is identified in parentheses after.
